Good question!

I've been consuming coconut oil for a few years and never had any problems with it... except once. One time I ate a couple of tablespoons of it all by itself (usually I have it with food), and a few hours later I had diarrhea, felt shakey and nauseous and almost threw up. It was just like food poisoning (but I hadn't eaten anything that could have given me food poisoning).
