avocado oil and almond oil to be better on my face,
with a light facial soap such as burtsbees.com lettuce soap for cleaning,
face..
hint if you warm oil very lightly heated, then add a bit of glycerine
and water to it and perhaps a nice herbal oil that is antiseptic/ antibacterial ,etc
(such as thyme oil, rosemary oil , gse to name a few)
and for fragrance add maybe 2 drops of something you love,
don't over do it tho just a couple drops will go far.
I personally like geranium and rosewood oils.

Anyhow, point is/ that this will lessen heavy oils on face,
and the gylcerine and water will help boost moisture back into dry skin ,
while the oils will create a nice layer to protect and the antiseptic
oils will keep bad bacteria low and preserve your home made face oil.

for hands I make my own hand lotion
and or if over dry
once in awhile , use burtsbees.com hand salve and let it soap in .
but like I said above, if you make your own hand lotion /
with glycerine added and water ,
it will benefit hands greatly .
if your hands are in water alot/ washing dishes etc or commercial soaps
that dehydrates them very fast.
try if you like to get a soft cotton glove and put olive oil on hands at night,
and sleep like that to give them a deep oil softening treatment.
you can check out some good handmade lotion ideas if interested in my eye of newt blog ( go to blogs and look under E to find it)

As far as coconut oil :
I have found it to be among the TOP
for softening body skin and ridding body of old dry skin cells etc.

I put some in a bowl and work on a section of my body at a time.
like one shin...
I liberally rub coconut oil all over my body part,
wait about 5 minutes then lightly scrape skin
or just use fingers in up and down and small circular motions

you might be amazed to see what sloughs off lol !!
after you are done,
use a bit of a light body soap such as a castile or oatmeal soap
to help remove any remaining sloughed off cells,
then wipe body part again with a clean clothe
and tepid water/ finish with a cool water wipe.

whenever I do this,
I notice my skin stays buttery soft for weeks afterwards
with a nice pinkish glow.

from there generally a nice dry skin brushing in between and
natural skin sponges in showers and natural bristle bath brushes
should do the rest.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I also use avocado oil on my scalp,
work it in with cotton sponge on scalp,
then comb it through,
leave on for several hours,
then wash hair as normal 2 times.

I never use a commercial hair conditioner,
and that lifts off old winter dry skin cells from head,
and keep hair nicely comb-able.
this means a great deal to me since I have waist lenght hair
and it used to be very dry and brittle when I was rehealing.
and took me up to an hour just ot detangle it sometimes !

I myself find the coconut oil too heavy for my face,
but that may be a personal thing.. since I am very fair skinned
and age 47 (thinner skin on face)

We use it in our home (coconut oil ) in a great variety of ways ,
such as a butter substitute, flavor add, etc.
I value its use greatly !
