I read in Bruce Fife's book that coconut oil works against lipid coated viruses such as the herpes simplex 1 virus (the virus that causes cold sores).

A couple of days ago I got that dreaded tingling in my lips. I was due in the dentist's chair the following day. How embarrasing would it be to have a great big cold sore on my lip!

Not to fear - before going to sleep I smeared some coconut oil on the affected area, and indeed the rest of my lips. It worked a treat. No cold sore! Not even a mark. Unlike Zovirax which always leaves a visible mark and takes much longer to work and is far less effective.

Coconut oil never ceases to amaze me. Surely a candidate for the greatest food ever?
