"Matthew 11:13
For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John."
"...(2) John the Baptist was the last one"
1.)That's a gross misinterpretation of that scripture. What Jesus said was that until John all the prophets had prophesied of Him - the coming messiah. NOT that he was the last prophet. You are really stretching that one.
Paul writes the following in the Book Of Ephesians:
Ept 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Eph 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph 4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Note that these gifts talked about in Epesians 4:11 are for the perfecting of the Saints (read: us). Some will teach that these offices have been slowly phased out and no longer needed.
That is nothing more than vain imaginations. Note that this perfecting is to take place until "we all come in the unity of the faith."
There are indeed, prophets and false prophets around today. The best way to determine which is which is to:
1.) Not despise the Word of God. In other words, don't be afraid of someone with a prophetic word.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
2.) TEST all things by Scripture that the PROPHETIC WORD SAYS so that you will know if "these things be so."
Many people get tripped up by the second part because they mistakenly judge "every" word from someone who may prophesy as the "propehtic" word. Someone who may move in the office of a prophet may say, "Looks like it's going to rain today." That's NOT a prophetic word and they are NOT a false prophet if the rain never materializes. That's a human opinion like everyone has. Learn to note the difference.
Some around here get hung up on this and believe that a prophet must be perfect in every way.
Humans make mistakes. Prophets are humans. Thus, prophets make mistakes - ONLY in areas UNRELATED to the prophetic word. Once someone claims to be speaking "from the LORD", must we be Bereans and test the word with Scripture.
