norxgirl had a very good point, children in the OT were older than what we, today classify as children. Children in the OT were 19yrs and under. To me, anyone over the age of 12 (sometimes even younger) knows better than to behave in the manner that those children who were attacked by the she bear. Although, we truly don't know what their ages were, however what I know of God, they would have to be older children and have the knowledge of right and wrong. Simply because God is Just, and always uses perfect Justice. What was happening there, is this:

Those "children" were being controled by an evil spirit and because they didn't have power through the most powerful name ever (Jesus Christ) God had to directly intervene and do away with evil. Just as, in the OT it was taught that a "rebellious" child be taken outside the city gates and stoned. Rebellion = EVIL. Just as God destroyed Soddom and Gomorrah {sp} He did so because the city was being ruled by evil spirits and satan himself. Because there was no atonement, evil had to be destryoed.

The other thing is in the OT every one new of the law, and how to obey - also they didn't have the perfect atonement. People of the OT had to bring sacrifices and go through the "ritual" of asking for forgiveness. They also did not have the power that we have through Jesus to cast out satan, and satan's doings. Now that we have the Perfect Atonement (JESUS CHRIST) we can come to God through Him and ask forgiveness - we are called to and have the power to cast out evil in the name of JESUS CHRIST.

You must always remember to read the scriptures in context, and remember that in the OT the people did not have free access to God. We truly are blessed people to have Jesus Christ, and all we have to do is ask, through Him turn away from sin.
