Alikat,

Thank you for your kind post. I too greatly respect your views and the kindness you demonstrate in your posts. I do not want to debate you. I only posted on this subject because someone sought my help.

I believe God is Sovereign and that He can give any gift and work any miracle at any time that He chooses for His glory. My intention was not to say that every miracle is a counterfeit. I am sorry for that misunderstanding. My intention is to warn people of the dire need to test the spirits and make sure that gifts and miracles are genuine. I am encouraged that you are not part of the ‘faith movement’, it shows you are discerning. I greatly respect that you are able to see many of the abuses that abound there.

For a time, I earnestly attended a ‘word of faith’ church. I witnessed many people mesmerized by a charismatic pastor who made himself above reproach. He claimed to have the special anointing of God, and people believed him without question. Often his preaching was excellent—straight out of the Bible. At other times he added his ‘special revelations’, such as his teachings on the ‘pre-Adamite’ civilization that he claimed existed on earth before Adam and Eve. One Sunday morning, he told us that he was canceling the Lord’s Supper that day because he had a special guest preacher who had a message that was so important that we just didn’t have time for the Lord’s Supper that day. That morning I witnessed thousands of people shouting ‘money cometh’ for a significant part of an entire service. I am not going to mention this pastor’s name, but I will say that he is certainly not considered a ‘bad apple’ by thousands of people. He is popular, and has his own TV show, and his own corporate jet. Health and wealth were tied to our level of faith. Of course our level of faith was ‘measured’ by how much financial seed we would sow. At times he had the entire congregation ‘speak in tongues’ at the same time during the service. He told people to restrict ‘holy laughter’ to the Sunday night service only. I would also be happy to go into many of his other theological errors, but this is not the time or place. He too talked of people being raised from the dead. Not in his church of course, but on the mission fields abroad. He never presented any evidence of this.

You also made the claim that many of the dead are being raised in Africa. This is incredible news indeed. As a Christian brother, I do not want to debate you on this, but I do want to know what evidence you have that it is really true, and that these incredible miracles are indeed genuine, and not counterfeits. I need to know the theology of the people who are working these miracles. It is the only way I can test them to see if they are indeed genuine. If they speak not according to the Word of God, it is because there is no light in them. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate it if you would present your evidence along with the people and/or ministries making these claims. I assure you, my mind is not made up. I am willing to test the spirits.
