Hi, I already have an infrared sauna that I bought used and love it but before I found mine I was thinking about building one and had seen some plans on eBay for them. unfortunately, the guy I had been in touch with, whose plans were very simple (I think he was using blankets and stuff, so it would be portable, and it was very cheap to build) isn't selling them on eBay anymore but somebody else is selling plans for a supposedly finnish sauna that can be furnished with traditional sauna heater or the infrared lamps (the infrared lamps aren't very expensive at all -- I think they ran from ten or fifteen ot thirty dollars and my sauna which is supposed to be for four people (four little skinny people) has either seven or eight. Anyhow, here is the ebay link for what it's worth and if it's no longer valid, just do a search for sauna plans on eBay.

Also, there is a book on the market for building a traditional sauna you could probably find on Amazon. But it would definitely be helpful to get the advice on how best to position the infrared lamps and what strength to use from somebody who had done it before.
There are really wide differences in price for basically the same equipment but do beware that you want the ceramic infrared lamps with the curved ribbed surface. Some of them just have a tiny little piece of ceramic inside a metal housing and they are not as good, supposedly. Mine is a therasauna and no problems, after a year of almost daily use
