i not only agree with you, karlin, about legalizing marijuana, but also reintroduce hemp as a legal crop. hemp is not marijuana, and does not strip the soil as cotton does. it's a stronger and cheaper fiber, too. but i'm sure you know all of this. i can honestly say i'm one of the 3 people left on the planet who has not experiemented with pot, so i feel even more validated when i argue its legality with narrow-minded conservatives. i'd be the last person they'd think would be FOR legalizing it, because they assume only "pot-heads" feel that way. but i know plenty of respected citizens with no criminal record whatsoever who are great parents, and contribute to society in many ways, and guess what - they smoke pot. whether it's to ease the tensions of a rough day, or ease the pain caused by a car wreck. the only purpose of keeping marijuana illegal is to turn good people into criminals. clinton's pot-smoking was a hot topic during his heyday as presidential candidate, but bush's cocaine habit and alcohol abuse that spanned decades was discreetly swept under the rug by our media. again, the good old american double-standard strikes back.
working in the medical field, i often encounter pharmaceutical representatives, and as reprehensive as i find them and their agenda, i know they're just pawns in a much larger scheme. i am only one person and can't do much to get rid of them besides put a dent in their little budgets by insisting they bring krispy kremes and starbucks, and the best pens and calendars before i let them through the door.
