i'm embarrassed to admit that i was actually residing in florida during the 2000 election debacle. i recall going from optimistic to incredulous all within the span of a month, losing all respect and confidence i once held for the supreme court as an impartial and honest institution. after i left florida (and who can blame me?) i was still hesitant to tell people that i had moved here from orlando, and i still add that i am not a florida native, and i'm a foreign national, so i don't vote. i do, however, follow politics closer than many registered voters i know, which is sad to say, because i'm far from a poli sci expert. over the past 2 1/2 years i've read everything from the "protesters" being flown in & paid from all over the country to demand a stop to the recount (that could carry a charge of inciting a riot...) and who now work as aides, inters, lackies, whatever you want to call them, for the bush admin.. you know had the tables been turned, that would be headline news on all the major conservative papers - the wash post, NY Times, boston herald, la times, etc, etc, but it took a rerout via buzzflash for me to find this info out, which, when i read it, didn't surprise me an iota. it is VERY frustrating to sit back and watch all this play out. the only way americans will know that this is a very expensive lesson they're learning, and not a coincidence (unemployment, upped deficit, cut benefits, etc, etc..) is if they open their eyes and inform themselves. unfortunately, the people to whom they turn to keep themselves informed are only in it for cashola & ratings, to hell with reporting the truth anymore. it's enough to leaden your soul.
