Sorry for the delay in replying. I haven’t been on the net. I thought I would post it here because it was a while ago when you asked.

I have never heard of 'stools that sink' being an indication of an ailment. So I did a search on the net because I am curious about this.

What I found is that in Chinese medicine it means:

- Stools that are small, hard and sink to the bottom of the toilet bowl indicate a yang / contracted condition. The extreme case would be constipation.

And then there are these reasons:

- Too much protein left undigested will result in 'heavy' stools—stools that sink to the bottom of the bowl—as well as a very foul smell.

- Stools that sink have been linked to a deficiency of bifido bacteria in the large intestines and thus an alkaline environment in the colon that creates a favourable pH environment for other unfriendly flora to replicate.

- Stools that sink like lead are a warning sign. If your stool floats score a point for the presence of fibre and adequate fluids. Score another plus if you leave “seamless fluffy floaters” in the bowl.

- Shape is part of the language of the bowel too. Pencil shaped, string bean and rabbit food pellets are red flags signalling warning. These shapes indicate constrictions and impaction in the colon. A beaded or “segmented “ stool also indicate a tendency toward constipation and a potential for diverticulitis.
