As a nurse for over ten years I have always been passionate about helping others through difficult times. I have offered to people anything that I could that may or may not have worked for them, but I always did my best to help make others as comfortable as possible.
Now being a new mom for the first time I find the frustration lies here at home. My beautiful happy healthy baby boy began to suffer from excema at ten weeks old. It broke out the first week in Jan. when it became unbearably cold and seems to have gotten progressively worse. Some days are better than others but he is very sensitive to heat and this seems to be one of the factors that triggers a flare up. My husband and I have done the combo of Aveeno baths followed by Aquaphor, Elidel ( which I didn't like),Westcort cream, all the Aveeno baby products and are just looking for that right combo that will work for him.
All the doctors seem to be able to do is put a bandaid over wound that will keep us coming back more frustrated every time. He has been on prosobee formula(We switched because we felt that the regular formula was causing him severe stomach pains) since two weeks of age as a supplement to breastfeeding. About five weeks ago, I stopped nursing and also started rice cereal. His condition seemed to progressively worsen. The wescort cream temporarily treats the flare up....but it doesn't last nor am I a fan of using it. Last week after a bad flare up I stopped the cereal changed his formula to Nutramigen, started using All free and clear deteregent and added air purifier and humidiifer to his bedroom and in our home.
His skin was starting to look really good and then because of the over application of products like Aquaphor he developed a prickly heat type rash on his back which seemed to aggravate the excema again. I feel like we are on the right track but are also limited because of his age and sensitivities. I just ordered Shikai cream and flaxseed oil for infants. Any help in a positive direction would be appreciated. Thanks Kelly
