after reading your story, i was stunned. i have a similar problem but its cause may be from a different reason. about 15 years ago i took alot of Antibiotics for acne, then i used the drug accutane. about 30 days after i was off the drug, i woke up one morning and noticed an odor similar to what you experience.

to make a long story short, i went nuts trying to figure it out. an odor that i can't smell most of the time, but always seems to be present. other people can smell it, but not everyone and those that i live with, can't.

i have tried to talk to doctors about it, but since they don't smell anything, they say i need psychiatric help.

i think the odor is always present, it is just that when you smell, you can't smell it. i think when you inhale other smells like cigarette smoke, that somehow changes something in your nose for a second and that is what allows you to smell your odor for a short period.

i experience this all the time. needless to say, i have suffered from this condition now for a long time and somehow i have learned to deal with it but life isn't the same.

please post back, i would like to know how you are doing. don't give up.
