My doctor says it is normal for LDL to increase as the body is trying to change its metabolism to the Atkins. My husband has high cholesterol and initially Atkins sent it even higher, the doctor assured us to keep doing it and wait to see in a few months... he was right. 7 months of Atkins and my husband's LDL is lower than it ever was without taking medications, also his HDL (good cholesterol) has incresed and his triglycerides have come from 356 pre-Atkins to 128 now. My total cholesterol has gone up and it is due to the very high HDL count... 65. my Triglycerides are 40 and LDL is 120. So, I believe the doctor was right... it just takes time for our bodies to adjust metabolism.
