I so enjoyed reading this post, stephen.
I was brought to Sikh Dharma and subsequently to Kundalini Yoga (The
opposite sequence of most people) by hearing the chanting of Snatam
Kaur. When I went to purchase the CD I found out that Snatam Kaur
LIVES in the same town as I do. I literally wanted to fall to the
floor with my hands on my heart.
When I went to the local Gurdwara for the first time to speak with
her - with tears of great bliss and compassion and relief flowing
from my eyes because of what simply hearing her "Shanti" Cd had done
to me during a massage - She took me into the Guru's room for the
Hukham. This was at the end of morning Sadhana. The Hukham she took -
being a "random" reading from the Gurus, turned out to be the very
lines that you mention Singh Kaur is chanting in "Crimson." I was
deeply moved at that Hukham because it spoke of the pain of the arrow
of God's love piercing one's heart and having a love of God - such as
I had been enduring since first hearing Snatam's chanting. After the
Hukham Snatam said to me that the Guru was speaking to me in that
Hukham.
My life has not been the same since Sikh Chanting came into my life.
I have never experienced more tranquility, more bliss, and gratitude
in my life than I do now. All that started in March 2004. I feel
truly blessed to have had Snatam Kaur right here at the Gurdwara I go
to.
My best Sikh friend, Gobind Kaur was brought into Sikh Dharma by the
playing of tapes of Singh Kaur 25 years ago at the health food store
in St. Louis run by the Sikhs there. This was before Singh Kaur had
released anything commercially. As in my case with Snatam being here
in my town, Singh Kaur was living at the Ashram where my friend first
heard her chanting and she had been enticed to enter the Ashram, and
never left Sikhi after that first day. It was a joyful moment to
discover this parallel between her and my beginnings with Sikhi.
It was months after my first visit and Hukham that I discovered the
Peace Lagoon CD by Singh Kaur and while meditating and listening to
it, the "Crimson" chant came on and I realized I was again hearing my
first Hukham. Indeed, my eyes are (still and again and again) wet
with the nectar of the Lord!
