Hi Katie,

You don't mention if you're practicing yoga already!?

Yoga will help you, and in fact, practiced mindfully, you would after some time no longer have a need for chiropractic adjustments.

I do hesitate to offer a specific "yoga rx" unless I know the person is practicing already and that it is a rounded yoga practice. For example a specific asana (~posture) applied to ease your condition will be much more successful if you are doing a range of asanas dealing with the entire length of the spine. And, with your condition it would be helpful to work with a yoga teacher who can watch that you are doing correctly and not compensating in an asana by over-utilizing other parts of your body. Does this make sense?

My first reaction is for you to work on forward bending and spinal twists. But since the coccyx is so important for standing and enabling an upright posture, I think you could benefit greatly from standing postures (triangle and warrior poses and their variations). Depending on the severity of your condition, you might begin twisting while standing and then graduate to seated twists.

The standing postures can easily be practiced incorrectly if a person has tightness in the hips or knee joints.

A place to start:

Take care to practice both sides equally, noting if the sensations are different on each side.

Approach mindfully of your posture and gently, noting differences between the two sides:

Take a look at these links anyway. I would really suggest if you're not practicing alreaday....find yourself a nice teacher who will teach a beginners course and make them aware of your condition.

Hope this helps.
Om,
janaki
