Never liked it. Why can't we greet people without touching? Like a little bow as they do in Japan and Korea. I was in Singapore during SARS. The thing I really loved about SARS is how everyone became paranoid and stopped shaking hands and such. When you go to church, most churches have a "greeting" time where you shake hands with everyone around you. I have always HATED this part. I am happy enough to greet them but NOT touch them. So during SARS they announced we should just smile which I was happy to do.
UNFORTUNATELY they reverted back to hand-shaking after the danger was over. Bummer. Here in America they also have a "greeting" time but now I am singing in the choir and the choir doesn't shake hands :-)
WHY should we be considered rude for not wanting to shake hands? Darn social conventions!
