May I ask you a question? Do you eat fish? Drink tea? Do you KNOW where they've come from or are grown? Do you KNOW you aren't ingesting ANY fluoride at all?
Granted, I haven't read all these papers and studies, but from what I DO know, many things are toxic at high levels. A person would have to consume massive quantiies in a short period of time for it to be toxic(like eating 200 tubes of toothpaste containing fluoride in under an hour.) It would make you sick and you'd vomit, but I'm not sure what other effect it might have in the long term.
Your stories about your family's dental health are interesting and could apply to most of us I suppose. Lots of people brushed with baking soda and still do. What's changed is our DIETS and the acidity in our systems(which we're born with.) My great grandfather died at age 95 with all his teeth. Do I KNOW he didn't have gum disease? Many people keep them, diseased or not (unless one day they actually sneeze them out.) Was his breath enough to kill a horse? I have no idea, but in an age when most people took for granted they'd lose all their teeth and just get 'store bought ones',he was an anomaly. Did his children have theirs removed? Yep. Just about every one of them. What changed? The popular thinking of the times and their education about it is what I think.
Honestly? I believe in fluoridation and have seen a dramatic decrease in decay rates in the past 30 or so years. I can only assume its because of the BENEFITS this generation has gotten from either natural fluoridation or supplemental drops and treatments.
Were massive doses used back in those days? I have no idea, but I also don't believe everything I read.
