ok, i went back and checked and it does not say that D production ceases, but it does cut in half after tanning. well, imagine that.
"Since we make about 20,000 units of vitamin D with a few minutes of sunshine (perhaps 10,000 units after our skin tans), human beings have been used to getting a lot of vitamin D every day, until very recently. Now, most of us get very little. This is simply deviant."
this tells me that the longer you are out of the sun, the more D you will make when you get sun. there is probably more oils secreted from untanned skin and untanned skin reflects the light back through the oil on the skin instead of absorbing it.
still looking for the perfect oil to supplement this process with by direct application on the skin.
