Over the years, I've accumulated quite a collection of Don Quixote statues, prints and paintings. Some were gifts, some I bought. To the
detriment of myself and family, I have seldom grossly compromised my values. I'm afraid that idealism is actually one of the benefits
that those of financial independence can enjoy - not for one who needs steady employment. As a politician as well in all other aspects of my
life, I would rather go down in defeat than support beliefs that are intrinsically abhorent to me. My "stubborness" is self-defeating if one measures success by the standards prevelant in America's middle-class, today. I tried compromise and hated myself for it. I took it out on all of those around me. John McCain impresses me as one with moral fortitude - but, he's a millionaire... That makes standing up to the unjust or immoral so much easier. In my final years as a blue collar worker (after years in management,) I was amazed at the proclivity of my younger coworkers for lying and their willingness to use the system for "their" maximum benefit. I observed this phenomena
from floor sweeper to executive director. The company had morphed from an equal partner to a tool for material advancement. Of course, this was a 2-way street. Loyal employees were treated with contempt. Perhaps this is merely the natural evolution of America,
but the fact that Bush is not being impeached is of great concern to me. I find little difference beteen the evolution of the Nazi party
and the Republicans. The platform and the methodology is identical.
