Also, I think one of the reasons why Master cleanse, and even other fasting methods can resolve a lot of issues is because they rest the GI tract and starve a lot of the pathogens.
Master cleanse is an aggressive approach at this (but powerful and cheap), where you obtain limited nutrition from lemon/molasses (these are readily absorbable before reaching the beasties).
