of the neck rather than the front of the neck??
When I do those positions, I feel the muscles from the back of my neck tensing...
Stretching beforehand would still help, also I would listen to your body and slow down on the number of repetitions until your body is ready to do them without pain...
I started and stopped several times in the beginning because I kept pulling my wrist muscles...
I have found that putting my hands on a soft surface like a towel puts less strain on the wrists as it distributes the load more evenly across my hands...
