Just have an election, no matter what. Then America can say Iraqis have their own leaders. Nobody knows anything about who they will be voting for, other than if they are Sunnis or Baathists or whatever, maybe not even that. There are no speaches or debates prior to this election.

It is too dangerous to show candidates faces or names, as they are getting killed by Iraqis opposed to this election. The resitance to America is strong in Iraq, and this election is widely seen as an act of installing american friendly politicians who willdo America's bidding in Iraq.

I suppose the main thing is to get oil contracts for Americans, and to remove the French and Russian oil contracts allready in place.

I doubt if even 10% of Iraqis will vote.

The main way to ensure "they get their men in every position" is the same in Iraq as it is in America - control the nomination process. Yes, it happens here too. Have you ever wondered how people get nominated? You should try for a nomination here sometime. You will find you get visits from people who will assess your willingness to "co-operate", and from there your level of support, your abilty to file papers [which costs a fair bit], etc.

Is this "spreading freedom"? Free to choose your leaders, free to express your wishes and aspirations for your nation? What if, for example, they wanted Saddam in power, just because he was the only one who could stop civil war in Iraq and he also put down the religious fundamentalists from taking control - that freedom is lost. Maybe thats not a good example, but freedom is not what Iraq is getting.

Iraq is not free of tyrants just because one tryant is gone - a more powerfull one, the one who installed the previous tyrant, is taking over.
