the defense would grow

but unknown
so far away

bodies burning

no thought
no feelings

no voice
no care

sweep it quickly
under the carpet

out the door
no more

dont want conflict
dont want war

its not my family
its a distant shore

"those people"
have been fighting forever

no empathy

no love
no understanding

religious symbols
nothing behind them

a tag
like cattle wear

not knowing why
and unaware

deeper
still deeper

is the soul
meant to soar

but the chains
get in the way

we must then
ignore

the weight of this world
keeps us tied

no empathy
at least you tried
