Interesting comments by #11885 -- I had never heard of that phenomenon.
On the chance it's not a physical issue such as that, here's "Plan B" which does not involve a doctor. This plan addresses potential bacterial and/or yeast infections, dietary issues, bodily digestive insufficiencies, and bacterial imbalances. You might see results with same...chances are they'll be modest...I'd keep my expectations low if lab diagnosis isn't done and Antibiotics (if necessary) aren't taken. "Shotgun approach" most definitely describes this plan.
1. Complete a candida questionnaire:

2. Address diet, cutting back on saturated fats, caffeine, alcohol, and refined flours. GREATLY reduce all types of sugars. Consume plenty of fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits. All grains should specifically state "100% whole grain" or "stone ground" on the label -- anything else readily feeds yeast. Keep in mind that wheat, egg, and milk sensitivities/allergies in adults are not uncommon.
3. Take a high potency multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. Common brands such as Centrum are NOT high potency.
4. Take Betaine HCl to address potential stomach acid deficiency (common in middle age and older).
5. Take a multi-enzyme digestive formula to address potential pancreatic enzyme deficiency.
6. Take Dandelion capsules to stimulate digestive liver bile.
7. Take a multi-herb "paraherb" formula to hopefully kill off potential parasites and yeasts (make sure "yeast" is also mentioned on label).
8. Take a fiber supplement since fiber is critical to lower intestional health. Take inulin since it feeds beneficial bifido bacteria in the colon, its primary resident. Since inulin is also a fiber, it's a two-birds-with-one-stone deal. Fiber Choice and Inuflora are two brands in the U.S.
9. Take a refrigerated, 10-15 billion active unit probiotic focusing on acidolphilus and bifido to restore proper gut intestional bacteria.
10. Buy this stuff at your local health food store. More info on each here: http://www.iherb.com/topics.html
