Besides, anyone who's anyone knows that if you want a retail job and health insurance, you choose Starbucks, not WalMart.

That's wonderful, but how many little towns in the middle of nowhere have a starbucks.

None.

How many have a walmart.

I'd assume about 98%.

lots of people don't have a sea of choices when looking for employment, and take what they can get.
