...which isn't necessarily a bad thing until some special interest group or charismatic leader hijacks the socialist system al la the National Socialist party in Germany in the 1930s). As an ideal, socialism can work just fine. As an ideal, so can libertarianism. Putting any political system fairly into practice is the eternal problem. You call the republican Hoover a libertarian sell-out. Fine. And Hitler was a socialist democrat sell-out.
You can create a monster out of any political philosophy, and Libertarianism is no exception, however unless we take responsibility for ourselves, and take back our power from those who endeavor to rob us of it, any system can subverted.
Greedy men in any party will usurp power if left unchecked. However, I would rather have a constitution left to deal with it when it happens, and we are losing ours and our civil liberties from the actions of the spineless sell-out politicians of both major US parties right now. At least libertarians haven't fallen that low (yet)
Also, the 'Republicans' are the first party of big business,. The Democrats are almost as bad, but they hide under an socialist facade. Libertarians are the party of free markets, and civil liberties. I have no doubt they could be just as disastrous to America if they were hijacked by big business and the ruling elite were we to let that happen.
Anyway, your view of Libertarian philosophy is a bit skewed, however. I bit heavy on the gloom and doom. What you have outlined is simply human nature and will occur under any hijacked political system.
If you want to live in a socialist police state where you get a livable minimum wage (for the short term anyway) but most every facet of your life is regulated by big brother in some way, the 'big' money goes to the big business ruling elite and if you do well, the state redistributes your wealth to itself through obscene taxes, that is your choice. Gloom and doom on my part? Perhaps. However this is largely what we have now under the Republcrats.
BTW, I think we need a bit of anarchy here in the US to shake up the status quo at this point. We need change. Badly.
