I ingest several herbs as plant sources for calcium (I buy the herbs in bulk from mountainroseherbs.com, 1.800.879.3337, and fill my own capsules). As a 51-year-old, petite Asian woman (5'2", 107 pounds), I am trying to prevent osteoporesis. I haven't had a bone density test in a year and stopped taking calcium supplements about six months ago. Since taking the herbs, I've noticed postive changes in my teeth (new growth on worn down surfaces) - a sign that my body is using the herbal calcium where needed.
I hope the following information helps you.
Dr. Christopher's Calc-Tea is made from horsetail grass, oat straw, comfrey leaves and lobelia.
Herbal sources of calcium:
+ Borage - Calcium, potassium
+ Kelp - Calcium, magnesium
+ Nettle leaves - Calcium, magnesium
+ Valerian Root - Calcium
The following herbs are excellent sources of silicon (or a silicon derivative). In the body, silicon converts to calcium wherever calcium is needed.
+ Oat Straw (probably the best source, also high in magnesium)
+ Dulse (also helps control calcium levels in the bloodstream)
+ Horsetail grass
