You might tell him to stop drinking anything 1/2 hour before, during and 1/2 hour after meals. Then, chew everything 30x. A brief walk after - don't lie down.

If you feel brave you can advise a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a mouthful of water w/some cayenne drops 10 minutes before a meal.
