As there's a kid involved, you need to be careful. Herbs contain lots of stuff, some of which could cross the placenta and get into your baby (lets not forget that some drugs are purified plant extracts - and you wouldn't take those!). Get to a pharmacy and ASK! They should have a book or other referance materials that will let you know whats safe and whats not. Don't be afraid of the insulin. It will be temporary and won't harm the baby. Also, eat a balanced diet to allow your baby to get all the stuff it needs - we evolved to eat both meat and veggies (hence molars and incisors!!)
