I wandered out of my regular zone and into the pregnancy forum just for kicks, and I find myself compelled to answer this post re: mom, hubby and epidurals.
I’ve learned that, statistically speaking home births are actually much safer. The live birth rate is higher, and c-section rate is lower than for hospital births. Not to mention less traumatic for child and mother. Mom and hubby may change their tunes with some cold hard facts. There are a lot of scary facts out there regarding things that commonly occur as result of “standard medical practice.” Too many dangers to baby and to mom to go into here.

My aunt had three healthy children at home. They were unassisted because at the time where she was no home birth support option was available. While she was pregnant she had read a book called “Immaculate Deception.” She said it had a lot of information on hospital procedures that are, in her words, “shockingly unsafe.” She said when she first read it she didn’t believe some of the things could be true. So she started asking doctors, and was amazed. That was 20 years ago. I am sure there is much better info available by now.

I have come across a ton of info that I realized I want to educate myself further on at the home-birthing forum of a site called mothering.com. It is a great site, and these ladies are so informative, and about as natural and non-interference as it gets. I’ve learned so much. I’ll post the link below. I’m sure it will help you find some very convincing facts for mom and hubby, as well as possibly motivating you into bold-faced insistence even if mom doesn’t come around. Good Luck!
