Dear PumpkinKing,

First of all, I can totally empathize with you. I've been in a similar area as you and I hope we can shed light on helping you heal. I am certainly not an expert, even in my own situation of having dealt with Cauda Equina Syndrome, but I do have some suggestions as well as questions.

With regards to your physical ability, do you have any numbness or lower degree of sensation in any of your limbs? How about muscle weakness? If you do have these symptoms, I urge you to schedule an MRI scan to verify the presence of a herniated disc or if a disc has ruptured. Even if the only symptom is your lingering sore spine, it's better to safe than sorry. Also, how long have you felt a numbness/weakness in your "push muscles"?

I too had problems with a decreased libido, mainly due to the inability to have much sensation in my lower body during the early stages of my recovery. I don't have anything to suggest, unfortunately, as I'm no expert in the area but I echo Owen's suggestion to seek out Andreas Moritz . I feel that the problems you are experiencing are certainly related and that once the larger problem of your bowel movements is on the healing path, the other issues will follow.

One thing that my surgeon had told me to do without fail right after I came out of the operating room is excercise my "push muscles". I'm not sure if this will help you as much as it did for me as our scenarios aren't exactly the same but we shouldn't leave any options unconsidered. The best way I can describe how to exercise the muscles is basically when you voluntarily stop the flow during urination or "hold it in" when you need to have a bowel movement. That's when you're flexing the muscles. Flex and hold the muscles for a few seconds, around 3 to 5 and see how many repititions you can do.

I'm not sure what else I can suggest right now but if you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I hope my own experience with back problems can help you out.
