Not to alarm you, but if you suspect you have a gluten intolerance, get tested for celiac sprue disease! A blood test is a starter, but the gold standard of diagnostics for celiac is a small intestine biopsy (sounds MUCH worse than it really is...they knocked me out for the 15 minute-procedure). If you are a celiac, since it is a genetic disease there's absolutely nothing you can do about it except adhere to a lifelong gluten-free restricted diet. "Once a celiac, always a celiac." While I'm at it, I'd like to add my own 2-cents worth as to the vast ignorance in the medical community regarding this disease. While a 2003 study estimated that 1 in every 133 people in the U.S. has this disease, 97% (not a typo) go undiagnosed. I was having horrid problems, did my own research, and insisted to my health care givers that I be tested until it was nailed down. Nobody believed I had it...not my GP or even my gastroenterologist until the pathology report from the biopsy came back positive. I'm doing great on my new diet; it's costly and inconvenient at times, but I feel fine and have had zero problems being on it. For more information, simply type in "gluen intolerance" in any search engine and start reading. Hope this helps, and best of luck.
