The copper coil should be worn especially at night. The background radiation is worse at night so he should be protected during that time. He should wear the coil all the time until he can go for awhile without any pain. Usually the people stop wearing it during the day until they get to a point that they only have to wear it when the pain kicks up. Since he wears it under his clothes this shouldn't be a problem.
