i hope my letter will be of any help to you
i am a 28 years old i had scoliosis before i was 16 years of age. i had a 58 degree curve or even more but for many many years i had to wear a back brace from the neck and down to the tailbone. i had to have a rod put in my back at the age 16 years because the cure was just to bad. the rod goes from the neck down to the tailbone. i am having allot of pain with it in. you might have no pain or you might have to take a pain pill everyday or advile. i was in surgery for 15 to 18 hours then i had to were the back brace again for about 1 year. so if i were you make sure it will help you and have allot of support by your family and friends. here is what i do for my pain. maybe it will be of any help so you will not have to have surgery.

1. if my back is swollen i use ice every 30 min
2. if my back is a pain ach like from the rain i use heat for 30 min
3. i take pain pills
4. i use a tens unit it is a mashion with 4 little stickers and it shocks the pain away
5. i use a hospital bed so i can get comfort night sleep and on the bed i hae this mashion that is called air presser and pump it is is bubbles that go up and down and that works well
6. i just got a lift chair
7. i get shots in my back once a month( that helps allot)
8. i exersize in pt and out of pt so i don't get stiff
9. when i have a bad day i use a wheelchair in the stores
10.get massages they help allot
