Can you drink straight lemon juice or add additional lemon juice?

The reason I am confused is because when you eat a lemon you are essentially pulling the juice out before you swallow. You are then digesting only the thin white skin of the lemon which the book recommends to consume as a bowel moving agent.

Let me know your opinion on this.
