Dear nobugsplease

Sorry about my late reply - my computer has been down for a few days. To answer your question:- The Alignment procedure has nothing to do with the physical body. Davis talks about either an alignment procedure or orientation counceling. Both these methods are suppose to help the Add person to stop disorientating say in boring situations - he acknowledges that non Add people also do this at times. He also suggests that it will help with overfocusing eg: as in video games. His theory suggest that people with Add have trouble with a correct perception of time which bings on all sorts of problems in planning your day and sequencing thiings; even slowing down to follow instruction can be very difficult. (This I have notice with my son)
Apparently there has been some researth that show that people with ADD have elevated level of dopamine which Davis believes is a direct result of them disorientating - (day dreaming) or in the reverse with a lower level being hyper. The more dopamine the faster the "internal clock" will go - visa versa. Depending on whether the person is a visual/auditory learner the orientation method is used. Or the alignment procedure is used for tactile or kinestheic learner. Both methods apparently help the student to perceive the physicla enviroment withourt perceptual distortions.
After this has been re-set the student then learns how to re-set his energy dial appropriate to the given activity. I know all this seems a lot to take in. However after reading this books and talking to many many people on the dyslexia chat line - many who are older adults who have had great results,I am very interested in this approach. Again I am in no way trying to promote this method as I still have not gone ahead with it with my son. Hence me trying to find out more on this forum. I would suggest you go to the "Dysleia the Gift" site as it has a lot more information and also discussion forums.

Hope this helps
Chez
