Here is what Erasmus writes in his "Choosing the Right Fats" (Alive Books, Vancouver, 2002, p. 10-11):
"Researchers have not agreed on the best ratio on n-3 to n-6" [...]
"Healthy people can consume foods with wide range of ratios (2.5:1 to 1:6). Sick people respond to n-3 enrichment in more than twice as many conditions as n-6 enrichment." [...]
"I have found that the exclusive use of flax (linseed) oil, rich in n-3, but low in n-6 (3.5-4:1) can lead to problems such as dry eyes, skipped hearth beat, painful finger joints, and fragile, thin skin. It can also lead to eczema-like skin problems, and to lowered immune fuction. This is because essential fats compete for enzyme space in our cells, and ocerabundance of n-3 in flax crowds out the n-6, leading to n-6 deficeincy"
"No traditional diet has the high ratio of flax oil. The Inuit diet, with a ratio of 2.5:1, is the n-3 richest traditional diet that does not lead to n-6 deficiency. Yes, there can be too much of a good thing. Be sure you get the right ratio of n-3 to n-6 for long-term best effects." [...]
"I have found that a ratio about 2: 1, a ratio almost as rich in n-3, as that of the traditional Inuit, works best".
