I used to read for people professionally, and usually the dearly departed woulld do SOMEthing to get someone's attention if they were open to it. Perhaps you need to say out loud that you're ready for a sign.

One client could hardly sleep on her bed, her father was shaking it so much! :)

Often it helps to be doing something that you used to do together, as there are vibrations surrounding that action that act like a telephone call. If you have any of his old clothes or things, take them in hand and talk to him.
