You are raising a very good point. Society uses labels to hide the unknown or make it more bearable, or so it seems. To give the unknown a life of its own, "this is cancer" and "cancer is a deadly disease that we we need to combat" we have, however, fallen in the traps of fear. By making the unknown concrete and tangible, we also turn it into a self-fulfilling prophecy. It is well known (and I have discussed this in my new book, Cancer Is Not A Disease - It's A Survival Mechanism) that over 95% of diseases come and go on their own without medical intervention. This inscludes cancer. The chances of surviving cancer without treatment are up to four times as high than they are if cancers are treated. Yet, the fear of the unknown drives so many into suppressive treatments that a natural cure becomes remote. Survivors credit their doctors or medical advancement for what their bodies have accomplished, despite the medical intervention.
We have created so many serious and deadly illnesses today that the labels that go with them but reflect the degree of the unknown. The fear of the unknown, which arises from the lack of knowing who we are and taking self-responsibility for whatever happens to us, untimately leads to self-destruction. On the other hand, letting go of the labels which merely depict the symptoms of a disorder, and attending to the basic requirements that a human body, mind and spirit needs to manifest in his/her life, not only ends the fear an external threat, but also generates the power needed to heal the root causes of the disorder.
Disease labels are like an insect that flies into a spider web and is trapped there. There is little it can do to escape. Social entrapments are hard to undo, but with courage and loving focus on yourself, honoring your own instincts and feelings, regardless whether they appear to be right or wrong, you lose your habit of seeing everything with the eyes of doom and gloom. You will find that even cancer isn't without a deeper purpose or meaning. People who have read Cancer Is Not A Disease reported back to me that it has removed their fear of illness. Not being afraid of disease, which are just deceptive lables, is the first and most important step to healing anything. Love is and remains the ultimate healer. Love what you resist and it will aid you. Resist what you are afraid of and it will affect you negatively. You ultimatley control the way the world affects you. That I believe is all we need to know about labels.
