Thank you, it is a very good question. When an event like this is karmic, even if you know what is coming you cannot prevent it. Karmic lessons can be painful, but they are also in our best interest. It is a clearing process.
I once knew a young American man while I was working on a project. A friend of his had a vision about him that he would have an accident involving his leg on a particular day. The man himself one morning had a dream that he would lose his leg during an accident. Although he was warned not to go outside the building that day, he went to the train station to another town in order to go shopping. As he arrived at the trains, his train already started moving. When he tried to jump on it, he slipped, fell, and one of his legs was run over and cut off. After that his whole life changed to the better. He went back to the states, got an artificial leg, fell in love, got married, has three children and got an amazing job. He is more happy than ever.
Challenges like these are turning points and blessings in disguise. It may take a little while to figure out the reasons behind them, but they are always there.
