Dear Hally,
Great question! Thank you for bringing it up.
In reality, we don't need help from others. But, given our complex karmic and emotional records, and the humans aspect of our existence, there may be an advantage in asking for help in order to learn how to receive something with an open humble heart. By asking for help, you give others the opportunity to open their heart, develop their gifts, and and grow in love compassion.
Many humans assume that they live separate lives and are independent from one another, that they can make it on their own and don't need anyone else's help or love. And suddenly something happens to them that shatters this notion of pride and seperatedness. Each of us may be walking on separate paths, we look and dress different, have different genes that give rise to different physical appearances, and each of our souls gives rise to a different, unique idendity. Yet, on a higher level of our own self -- the higher self -- differences become uneventful, and oneness turns out to be the ultimate reality of selfhood.
Being on the planet has one purpose only, that is, to consciously integrate more of this depth of oneness with all that exists in this world, including our body, all humans, the animals, even the rocks and dust of the earth. As ants live and function under one umbrella consciousness while doing their individual thing, we also must rise to this awareness of collective oneness while persuing our individual lives. Ants always work for the whole of the clan, the survival of all species and the entire planet. If such minute creatures as ants or dung beetles weren't doing their work on this planet, we no longer would be here. We would all be dead. They are helping us to live and survive, whether they or we are conscious of it or not. We also help each other rise grow and develop, either through unpleasant karmic exchanges, energetic exchanges through money or other means, and through love gifts. Those who are helped by others begin to discover their worthiness. Having been given something precious in life, motivates you to do the same or somehting similar to others. With every exchange, there is shift in frequency of consciousness, and one gets a little closer to oneness than before.
Giving and receiving is the mechanism behind the raising of human consciousness to its divine level because it can disperse limitations and boundaries of "I" and "Mine". Heaven on earth is but an experience of human consciousness that makes absolutely everything a concern of yours. By giving assistance to someone, you are actually assisting yourself. By loving someone, you are loving yourself more. Giving opens your heart to a wider area of life. Allowing others to help you also breaks down the artificial, truly non-existing boundaries between humans. Both phases of living are part of a balanced live, just as is breathing. You breathe in oxygen to nourish your cells. Your cells make carbon dioxide which you exhale in order to nourish the plants. The plants take up this gas and make oxygen which they give to you. To say there is no oneness between the earth and us would be ignorance. If you weren't ready to receive the gift and help from the plant kingdom, the cells in your body would die off.
With regard to the money question, it cannot be answered without including a person's larger picture and present karmic opportunities originating in past lives. Many people are facing economic shortcomings or poverty, unable to afford basic health care and even basic food itesm. Many of them think it is unfair, and they are not treated fairly by the government, the political/economic system, society, their family, etc. One one hand, they are here to help others open their hearts and bring out their love and compassion for the less priviledged of us, and on the other hand, they are dealing with the harvest they themselves asked to reap because of what they have sown in the past and not completed yet. I so often see those who are deprived of food and shelter today as having deprived others of the same in previous incarnations. They are now facing their own guilt of what they did to others. When they no longer feel guilt and shame, something suddenly happens to them that miraculously takes them out of victimhood and poverty. There are hundreds of stories out there where this has occured.
Everyone is ultimately responsible for everything that happens to them. The negative life situations are challenges that can help those who carry such guilt in their heart and soul memories to no longer play the victim role and assume their own power. Everyone is equipped with the same power. Some use the power to resist the stream of abundance, others use it to remove their resistance to it, other are simply in the flow of things and unite their power with the power of the universe. Being in the victim role, one attracts poverty, hardship, attack, pain, disease and suffering. These exeriences serve as a way to first build up and eventually break down the low self-worthiness behind them. Once this phase is over, either in this or a later life steam, the full power, love and wisdom will begin to shine through and attract more of the same from others and the world.
