Plenty of tests have been done to prove it, including one involving a 10 year survey of 46,000 men aged 40-75 and found an inverse association between average daily intake of wine, beer or spirits and risk of gallstones.
The researchers conluded "These results suggest that frequent, moderate intake of alcohol decreases the risk of symptomatic gallstone disease, in contrast to infrequent or episodic alcohol intake."
All types of alcoholic beverages were found to be protective against gallstone disease, but they specifically noted that compared to abstinence, moderate intake of wine was associated with A 41% DECREASE IN GALLSTONE RISK in this study.
