it actually was traditionally used to counteract poisoning from toadstools, hemlock and bite of poisonous fishes.
to cure drunkenness, and also to make beer (increase the headiness .)
distillers made this eventually in such strong doses that it became an addictive narcotic liquid that became notorious for damaging brain and nerves, and ended up being almost totally banned in the 19th century for this reason.
the herb was once called by the chinese as wermuth (does vermuth ring a bell? )
and was considered a preserver of the mind.
vermuth sold today often still has a touch of Wormwood in it.
the problem with it is that it can become addictive when used continously in extreme doses of over use., over time.
which is kinda a shame cause it has 2 distinctly helpful phytochemicals in it..
absinthin, and anabsinthin,
which stimulate digestion, improve gallbladder liver functions esp in people with liver disease.
it makes the mouth water and stomach juices flow
the safety precautions lie in the fact that it also has straight thujone in it.
which is a hallucenogenic brain depressant which can inhibit the bodies ability to breathe.
in a short term dose for a treatment of use it should pose no problems for you . if you follow the dose procedure.
and also remember in tinctures you also take a 1 -2 week break in between treatments,
so the risk of addiction is even more reduced.
pregant or nursing women should not take it/because thujone can stimulate uterine contractions,
people with ulcers probably should avoid it/ since it stimulates further stomach digestive juices.
as long as you stick to recommended doses , and breaks and do not take extremes, and discontinue use after treatment,
you should be fine.
i hope this helps you understand
how this notriety of the herb came into being,
and with any strongly medicinal herb/ follow the guidelines
you can overdose on tons of stuff even jus aspirin,
2 iron pills in an infant can kill .. see the point?
follow safety precautions 8)
Best to you
