>>>The other possibility is that the herbs were stimulant laxatives that have resulted in problems with your bowel muscle and lead to constipation. These types of cleanses often result in dependence on the herbs to maintain regularity. If the product included senna, cascara sagrada, turkey rhubarb or cape aloes then this is likely the problem<<<
While it is possible for someone that has depended upon herbs for an EXTENDED period of time to run into difficulty resuming normal bowel function, is it virtually impossible for someone that was having normally moving bowels, to take a couple of weeks worth of aperient/cathartic herbs in a Bowel Cleanse and end up with any type of damage or dependence.
***~~~ The muscles in the colon (like ALL muscles in the body) are made STRONGER by constant stimulation, NOT weaker! ~~~***
However, just like an athlete in training, after stimulating the muscles intensely during training, one usually needs a bit of 'recovery time' before the strength in the muscles is actually apparent and noticeable. Think of lifting weights for hours, focusing on only one or two arm muscles...then try to lift a heavy box! The muscles will SEEM weaker, but in a few days they'll actually be stronger. And so it is with herbs that stimulate the bowel.
So many MANY people have a 'pendulum type' reaction to cleansing the bowel...i.e. after a lot of days of 'the pendulum' being to one side (in the case of a bowel cleanse, have lots and lots of bowel activity), the pendulum swings to the other side, and they feel as if they're constipated or having problems. This is normal. It is especially common with folks who do a Bowel Cleanse and then return (or continue) eating a poor diet. But instead of understanding the true reason for the slowness or sluggishness of their bowel after a fiber/herb cleanse, they panic, listen/read a bunch of junk from other people that don't understand how the body works (that learned what they were saying from other people that didn't understand how the body works -that probably once panicked themselves- and read all the garbage on the 'net by folks like 'quackwatch' etc), and end up spending lots of extra money on different products they don't need (or doing all kinds of enemas or colonics), because they're convinced they've somehow damaged their body because they took senna for a week. There's got to be a LOT of N.D.'s, naturopaths and colonic therapists out there that have seen this scenario so frequently that they believe it themselves.
(Just fyi, I don't think that colonics or enemas are bad things OR a waste of money...in any way shape or form! It's just my opinion/experience that almost everybody has a 'down time' after ANY type of a colon cleanse, and when they don't understand it, they panic and run to try something else before they understand their reaction was totally normal).
Also...when utilizing bentonite/fiber cleansers, it is imperative to consume not only 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water daily (which the body requires on a daily basis WITHOUT the fiber!) but also to consume an ADDITIONAL 8-12 ounces of water PER DOSE of whatever combination one is taking.
I feel it is extremely important that those of us who advise others, to fully understand and comprehend the actions and effects of natural medicine, along with understanding how the human body functions (as I'm sure we all do). Everybody's body reacts differently (and to varying extremes) when utilizing natural cures...and when it comes to "laxative herbs", the opinions and reactions are just about a varied as the amount of stars in the universe. But stimulating and exercising any muscle in the human body, can not possibly cause that muscle to become weaker in the long run (even though it can make it 'tired out' in the short run).
So be careful folks, it's a jungle of misinformation out there!!
Flush ON,
Unyquity
