Dear intuition, I couldn't agree more with the recommendations unequity suggests regarding Castor Oil Enema s to help relieve fecal impactions. Oil Enema s are always somewhat messy, but nothing promotes relief from an impaction better than an Oil Enema .

Olive oil is also excellent and has been used for this purpose for thousands of years. You can use a 4 or 8 ounce bulb syringe filled with olive oil and retained for one hour or more, or better, overnight. But you better be wearing a Depends and expect some leaking.

Afterwards, a soap solution enema followed by a saline or plain water enema usually provides relief if you haven't already achieved it by this time.
