I came across this quote while waiting for therapy during an emergency visit to my doctor this afternoon.
"Civilized life means an artificial life; civilized people, living in a civilized manner, eating civilized food, cannot, in the very nature of things have a truly healthy colon."
What better reason to pay special attention to colon health, ultimately, the colon affects every organ and system of the body.
Right now I am having to deal with an almost non-functioning bowel. In late September I did a 12 day Oxypowder cleanse. It took eight capsules to see results. Things went fairly well, although I had more of a sense of being flushed of new material rather than cleansed of old matter. After the Oxypowder my bowels ceased to work. Thinking I might have washed out too much flora, I began taking Primal Defense, a pro-biotic. This has helped a little, I've had four natural movements in three weeks. The rest of the time I have to resort to either an Epsom salt flush or herbal laxative. I have just ordered Dr. Schultz's Intestinal Formulas #1 and #2 in the hopes they will restore normal movements. I have avoided products like this in the past because I don't want to become dependent on the Senna. However, I have read some good reports about Dr. Schultz on the forums here. Has anyone here done the IF #1&2 cleanse with good results? Did normal bowel function return after ending the cleanse? Will pro-biotics be necessary after doing the Schultz cleanse?
My doctor thinks some of my problems stem from the same nerve root inflammation that causes chronic excruciating pain, weakness in the legs and difficulty walking. This makes sense; but when I don't (can't) have regular bowel movements the pain and weakness becomes much worse. That's when I resort to herbal laxatives or magnesium based products for a quick fix. I want a cure not a temporary fix. Any advice will be appreciated.
