Bulgarian Task Force Lada Finally Arrives In Kuwait
Kuwait - President Bush and Prime Minister Blair's plans for war with Iraq received an unexpected bonus today when the Bulgarian army today finally arrived in Kuwait, some five weeks after departing Sofia in their official Lada. The unexpected but timely arrival of the Bulgarian army has swollen the total number of troops ready to engage in war to 150,004.
Looking tired after their long journey from their barracks in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, to Kuwait, the soldiers explained the delay in their arrival as a result of three breakdowns and the need to find part-time work en-route to cover the fuel bills.
"We didn't realise quite how far the drive was." General Bettavic told us. "We thought we would head through Greece as there was a greater chance of picking up casual bar-work to help cover the cost of getting here, but the extra journey time took its toll on our trusty transport."
Despite spending five weeks crammed in the back of their 1986 Lada Riva, all four soldiers revealed their readiness to support the US/UK war effort and reiterated their country's firm commitment to the war.
"All the way here we sang songs of war, though after a while the cramped conditions did take their toll." General Bettavic continued. "Two of the lads started arguing over who would get to hold the rifle first before we realised that we had completely forgotten to pack it. Still at least we are here. And Miroslav picked up so good tips too. He is a good-looking boy with boots that fit too."
General Bettavic further explained that some 20% of their total numbers had been lost when one young soldier had fallen in love with a lady in a road-side cafe in Turkey.
"These things happen." Bettavic revealed, "however Goran was also our mechanic so things got a bit, well, f**ked, when we broke down. We managed to push the car the 200 miles to a garage without too many problems though and managed to haggle our ammunition for some oil. How we laughed! Swapping our guns for oil, just like we will be doing for our true friend President Bush in a few short weeks!"
