Your experience and transcendence of the dark aspects of reality are testament to our abilities as humans to overcome difficulty through love, acceptance, hope.
Violence is a symtom of many problems: lack of love, nurture; lack of spiritual/mystical sense, and loss of connection with nature; financial hardship (in an unabalanced, unjust society); repressed anger; unevolved primitive response (surely, violence was necessary for survival in earlier times), to name a few. The present conflict is in the need for an adaptive response to overpopulation: humane, equal distribution of resources; clean, renewable energy for a sustainable planet; tolerance/acceptance of all human beings, etc. I do have hope in the "hundreth monkey"- morphic resonance theory. Raising one's consciousness and balancing one's chakras can be an example, spread love exponentially, and through resonance, entrain others' consciousness. The global peace movement is one example.
The biggest challenge, I think, is the brainwashing mass media. Truth needs to spread everywhere, all the time, as much as possible. All our radio/tv transmissions, and our thoughts are constantly being broadcast into space. In our ionosphere, they can affect all of us through resonance with our theta waves (7.5 Hz). So, we do think our reality into being, and I believe higher consciousness/awreness is a natural progression of our essence- a refinement to purer energy/light/bliss....
