Holistic Hhealing - THE STEPS

THE STEPS

As you read through the following steps, please keep in mind that there is logic in the sequence of the presentation. To maximize the effectiveness of your healing, we strongly urge you to read through this guide in its entirety. Some steps will be more difficult than others and may require more contemplation. Seeking the loving support of others and discussing issues as they arise will speed up your healing process tremendously. Remember that you are not alone, even if it sometimes feels that way.

LOVE YOURSELF

"maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love"

Love yourself unconditionally, which includes forgiving yourself. Your healing will kick into high gear once you have found forgiveness! Listen to the loving words you speak to others and speak them to yourself. You are a perfect being and deserve as much love as those you love. You cannot truly love another until you learn how to first love yourself.

One of the things I noticed when I first began practicing Reiki was that I could not feel it when I tried to do it on myself. When I questioned this, I was told that the reason was because I was not loving myself. I could accept love from others, but not from myself. I "thought" I loved myself, but soon realized that I was still being judgmental of myself. not truly forgiving myself of what I considered mistakes I had made in the past. I still felt a bit unworthy of love. I began talking to myself, so to speak, saying all the things I would have said had I been speaking to a best friend: "You did the best you could. You never intentionally harmed anyone. Any hurt you may feel responsible for was caused out of ignorance. It was not deliberate." I began to empower myself by focusing on my positive aspects, instead of dwelling on what I had perceived as negative. I changed my perception of the "mistakes" I had made, realizing that each and every experience is, in reality, simply a learning experience and, therefore, an opportunity for spiritual growth. By doing this I found forgiveness. It was not long before I began to feel the Reiki when I practiced it alone and know that I was loved, not just by others, but also by me!

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

"Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?"

"He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;
and greater works than these shall he do;"

You know your body better than anyone else. Use daily affirmations such as "I AM healthy. I AM full of energy. I AM strong. I AM happy," etc. Believe in yourself. Do not rely on others to affirm your healing. Do not be attached to the response of others! Hold true to your belief in yourself.

Think positive thoughts and use positive words, rather than thinking and verbalizing what you are NOT. Doing this will cause you to make conscious decisions about not only how you feel, but also how you will BE.

The problem with Fibromyalgia is that it is an invisible disease. I call it invisible because there are no visible symptoms. The only way people know that you have it is for you to tell them, which usually requires an in-depth explanation of what it is. I used to wish that my skin would turn a glowing bright red in every area of my body that hurt so that others could see that there really was something going on. I felt very defensive about it and tried hard to be forgiving of the non-believers. I did not need anyone else to tell me when I felt pain, nor did I need anyone to affirm that I was healing myself!

CHOOSE TO HEAL

"If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain,
Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be
Impossible unto you."

Decide with every fiber of your being that you choose to heal. There is a big difference between "saying" you want to heal and actually being committed to healing. It requires a commitment to yourself. Only you can heal yourself. Others can help, but others cannot do it for you.

I would have done ANYTHING to free myself of the constraints of disease-that is how strong my desire was.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

"thy faith hath made thee whole"

We find it a very common practice of someone suffering from disease to think it's "happening" to them by chance. Some blame God and even view it as a punishment, but remember, "ye are gods," so actually the responsibility is your own. It is not a punishment but is rather a consequence stemming primarily from personal choices and/or emotional states. Personal responsibility refers to cause, as well as the actual healing. Disease is just that: dis-ease, which can be caused by emotions. Diet and excessive use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol are some obvious causes of dis-ease, but our emotional actions, such as regret, guilt, hate, worry, and so on can have physical and mental reactions/consequences as well. Any of them to extremes can cause severe physical and/or mental dis-ease. Why do some people get cancer from something and not others? We think it depends mainly on the person and the emotional state of being.

On the healing side, Love is the key. Love causes a reaction of ease.

In order to heal, simply accept responsibility and Love yourself Unconditionally.

It can be tough to accept, but we do create through the choices we make, consciously or subconsciously, including disease. The key in freeing ourselves of disease is to first accept the fact that we are responsible for its creation. The next step is to figure out how and/or why. We are not suggesting that disease is not a real physical and/or mental experience, obviously it is. We are suggesting, however, that at some very, very deep level we are responsible for not only its creation, but for its healing as well.

I had to go all the way back to my childhood to understand this. What I discovered about myself was that I had in fact learned how to be sick. I was born legally blind in one eye and had chronic bladder infections until about age nine. I could see how being sick had served me, as well as my family. My mother had this incredible need to nurture, and since the universe always seems to provide exactly what we "need," I spent a great deal of my childhood in the hospital. How did that serve me? Well, being the youngest and weakest protected me from the household wrath, but the trade-off was that it left me very sad and I was picked on by the other kids unmercifully. I guess in reflection, I could say that it served a higher purpose in that it taught me how to be strong in the face of adversity.

From there I had to figure out how being sick served me as an adult. What I found was that I had become conditioned to using illness as an escape, especially in my experience with Fibromyalgia, even though the obvious trigger was the physical trauma I experienced while hospitalized with a rare form of pneumonia. Whenever I found myself having to be someone I did not want to be, or being with someone I did not want to be with, or doing something I did not want to do, the Fibromyalgia would flare. Instead of just taking a vacation to go lay on the beach and watch the ocean somewhere, I would find myself laying in bed with a bottle of pills and nothing to look at but the walls. What a trade-off!

We all have our own unique reasons for experiencing disease. For some, it can be as simple as enjoying the attention and sympathy one receives and/or as an excuse to be lazy. It could be just the opposite for others and be a form of self-punishment, so to speak. For example: Some people feel they aren't worthy of happiness and good health, they think they deserve only pain and suffering. There are countless reasons why one would choose disease, including a belief that if you do something, or eat something, etc., it will cause disease. And sometimes, there seems to be no apparent reason at all, which is why it takes a whole lot of honest soul searching to find our own individual reasons, including considering the possibility that the illness could be for the sole (soul) purpose of serving another. Having an open mind and a willingness to be totally honest with yourself will make this search much easier.

THANKFULNESS AND GRATITUDE

"Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad:"

Thank God in advance for your healing. Remember that God hears your prayers even before they are said. Know in your heart that God is always with you. You do not need to pray to God every day asking again and again to be healed. All you need to do is express your desire and know that your request has been heard and the healing is already in process; now the rest is up to you. How does the saying go? "The Lord can only help those that help themselves?" Repeated requests reflect doubt in you and in God. Thank God. Express your gratitude in every way that you can. "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad," means to find joy in life, the saying "don't cry over spilt milk" is very wise because guilt and regret can be very dis-easing. Hate, fear, and even doubt can also be very dis-easing.

I did not "ask" God to heal me, to take my pain away. Instead, I said, "Thank you God." Thank you for giving me excellent health. Thank you for helping me overcome my pain. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow, to learn how to love fully, and to share what I have learned with others. But most of all, thank you God for helping me "be" love." I still thank God every day for my continued good health and happiness.

TAKE AWAY THE NAME
AND
STOP CLAIMING IT AS YOURS

"For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words
thou shalt be condemned."

The old "Name It, Claim It" game! Which means: Be careful what you claim.you might just get it! Or, you can make it be what the name implies and continue it on to its outcome. To give a name to something is to give it power, the power of whatever the name may imply, as in deadly, incurable, disabling and so on.

What we suggest is to refer to it as a challenge. Challenges can be overcome! That is not to say the symptoms do not go with a name. When a doctor makes a diagnosis, they more than likely will have a name for it if the symptoms are like something already named. We suggest not accepting the outcome of the name, just use the name as a means to research and understand the possibilities that go with the name.

The best way to defeat an adversary is to know everything possible about it. For example, there has in recent years been a condition given the name "Fibromyalgia." Before the name there were lots of people experiencing the symptoms, but doctors could not understand it, so they looked for ways to treat the various symptoms, but they still could not find a cause, let alone a cure. So they named it and claimed it incurable because they cannot cure something they do not understand. Many, including a lot of doctors, even go so far as to say it is completely psychological-that it only exists in the mind. They treat the patient like a hypochondriac, when in fact the symptoms are quite real.

Now we personally believe everything "at least" starts psychologically, but here were many (now reported to be at least 20 to 30 million people) with the same symptoms in America alone. That can be very frustrating, and frustration can become a trigger to flaring or aggravating the Fibromyalgia. Finding out that it is a real condition that many others share is a blessing. Once the medical community began recognizing it as a true physical condition and began researching the condition, a better understanding was gained. It enabled patients to learn about it and figure out ways to try to live with it, since it was called incurable. The understanding was actually a personal thing for Robin, derived from personal research of the research performed by the medical community, along with knowing one's own body. In other words, looking at it from the inside-out, instead of someone else making assumptions from the outside-in.

In the long term, holding on to the name hinders the ability to heal, especially if the name is associated with an "incurable" condition. Now again, there IS something going on so we call it a challenge, and CHALLENGES CAN BE OVERCOME! We can even narrow it down to the part of the body affected. For instance, if you have back trouble, it can be called a challenged back, or if its asthma it would be called a respiratory challenge, and so on.

By taking away the name you are able to reduce it from a potentially huge, overwhelming, all-encompassing, disabling disease into a manageable and potentially curable challenge.

Stop and think about how many times you say these two words: "My ________." Even doctors, family and friends refer to it as "yours" (i.e., "How is your Fibromyalgia today?") As long as you refer to it as "yours" you are holding it to you. Take away the power of the name and accept it as a challenge on a daily basis. (i.e., "I have a challenge in my hands today.")

"How is your Fibromyalgia?" they would ask. "My Fibromyalgia is doing okay, or not okay," I would answer, depending on how I felt at the moment, not quite knowing how to measure the pain. Just the thought of "Fibromyalgia" in itself could be overwhelming to me, as the name in and of itself projected the thought "incurable" and "never-ending pain," and the thought of spending the rest of my life in pain began to be too much for me. No wonder Depression is associated with it! But I could deal with having a challenge in my hands or my back, or "wherever" . . . TODAY. That seemed to imply that the challenge just might not be there tomorrow, or that if it was going to be there tomorrow, it might not be the same degree. It gave me hope in that I knew that challenges could be overcome! Once I realized that by referring to it as "mine" I was actually holding it to me, I began to answer that "How is your." question differently. I just quit acknowledging it by simply saying "I feel great! I have a challenge in my _________ today, but it will be better tomorrow!" As my confidence grew it became much easier to say "I don't have it anymore!"

EMBRACE DON'T DENY

"Love your enemies, bless them that curse you"

When the challenge arises in whatever form, avoid thinking and saying things like, "No, not now," and do not curse it. Embrace it with love and see it as an opportunity. Look at everything as an opportunity-an opportunity to know thy self, self-realize, an opportunity to overcome, so to speak.

Look at the situation. Embrace it. Love it. If you choose to move on, look to understand it-to find its creation, the choice or choices that created the Consequence. Look at it closely; ask what it is telling you. When the understanding comes you can begin to move away.

Honor yourself by acknowledging your pain; do not try to pretend it is not there, or that you have to be strong for everyone else, just do not give in to it to the point where it becomes overwhelming. Be stronger than the disease.

I found that my symptoms got much worse whenever I tried to deny or downplay them. Denying that there was a challenge or that I did not feel good was not being loving to myself. If those around me could not accept me "as I was" and support me, then they were not being very loving to me either. In either case, this was not a healthy way of living. Part of my own healing was to acknowledge this and make the necessary changes in my life, which would allow me to experience my pain in a loving way-and some of those changes were quite difficult because it meant letting go of relationships that were not healthy because they denied me the right to be who I was.

If you notice your symptoms are worse at some times than others, take a look at what is going on in your life at the moment. You just might find some insight there.

GO WITHIN

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

This is probably one of the most difficult steps of all. Take a long hard look at your life and try to figure out what purpose a condition is serving. This can be the toughest part of the healing process because it is entirely up to each individual to be honest. It takes complete honesty, and even humility, with one's self to accept the Truth. Others can help to expose the truth, but it is up to you to accept or reject it. Once the truth is exposed, faced, and accepted, Rejoice! Be happy because this could hold the key to your Excellent Health.

Once again, an example of how a condition might serve a purpose could be, to be blunt, used as an excuse for laziness, fear, hate, especially self-hate or low self-esteem, regret, guilt and so on. An old saying is, "be careful what you pray for, you might just get it." We also say, be careful what you ask for, and especially what you claim. Is a hypochondriac sick all the time because they really are sick, or is it that a hypochondriac becomes sick because they claim sickness? I (Don) knew a woman in her early 20's that was perfectly healthy until she got lazy, and then she began claiming to be sick because she was too lazy to get off the couch. She began to claim sicknesses to get others to do things for her. In a short time she really did begin to get sick. She had heart trouble and a hysterectomy before the age of 25.

In many cases, health challenges can be traced all the way back to childhood and quite possibly even further. Many people have discovered instances of severe trauma during hypnotherapy and past life regression sessions. Of course, that can be left to belief, but we have heard of many healings resulting from an understanding of an event or events from past-life experiences. (There can be a pattern in one's nature that can be broken simply through understanding.)

Although we have already talked about this earlier, it does deserve to be said again: It can be tough to accept, but we do create through the choices we make, consciously or subconsciously, including disease. The key in freeing ourselves of disease is to first accept the fact that we chose the experience in the first place for some reason. The next step is to try and figure out why.

Over the years we both meditated, read books like Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch and Journey of Souls by Michael Newton, PhD, researched different spiritual philosophies, focusing mainly on The Huna Tradition, and became Reiki Masters. We learned that we are three-part beings made up of body, mind, and spirit. In keeping with the Huna philosophy we use the terms Low Self, Middle Self, and High Self. By getting in touch with each aspect of our "Self" we can gain a better understanding of the role each aspect plays and learn how to bring these three aspects together to work for the good of the "Whole" Self.

Since Low Self represents the body (your physical health), it is important for Middle Self and High Self to work together in soliciting Low Self's assistance and cooperation in healing. Low Self can be very stubborn and resistant to letting go of the control it "thinks" it has. However, when all three parts work together as One, you suddenly find yourself stronger than you ever imagined possible.

I found working with my Low Self to be one of the most difficult and important aspects of my healing, especially since I had spent the majority of my life facing health challenges of one kind or another. Accepting excellent health as a way of life was something that my Low Self had never even considered! And my Low Self still requires reminders every now and then of how much "better" it feels to be healthy than it does to be sick.

Meditation is the easiest way to communicate with your Low Self and your High Self. Although I do know that I am ONE, in meditation I address these aspects of myself as if they were separate identities and talk with them as I would my friends. It is a very healthy, loving way to get in touch with the deeper side of yourself. Doing this also reinforces your spiritual nature and helps you to understand the true power God has given each and every one of us, which includes the power to heal ourselves! Remember, your High Self is the part of you that knows what your Higher Purpose is. It always sees life from what we call "the Universal perspective," rather than just a "worldly" one.

Worth repeating from the opening of this guide:

"We are not humans having a spiritual experience.
We are spiritual beings having a human experience."

STOP LETTING IT CONTROL YOUR LIFE

"as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance,
and knowledge, and in all diligence"

Decide on a daily basis what you feel like doing. Stop saying "I can not do this or that because of the challenge." Respect your challenge of the day, but do not anticipate the challenge to be there tomorrow!

I always felt I had to explain why I was not participating in certain activities. My reasons were usually because I had this muscular condition that limited me. I could not sit on a bench for very long, or walk very far, or run, or swing a golf club, and on and on. I was always arguing for my limitations because I knew that I had this incurable disease. I got pretty tired of always having to defend myself.

I found it much easier to deal with things once I had let go of the name and claiming it as mine. I began to think, "Well, maybe I could do that when I feel a little better!" Once again, I began to have hope and became determined to NOT live my life based on what I could NOT do. I began to look forward to doing the things I could do.and what I might be able to do.tomorrow!

RETRAIN YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS
IN POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

"to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency
in all things, may abound to every good work:"

It takes conscious effort, but once you get the hang of it, your life will become much easier and much more joyous. Simply eliminate the negative and replace it with the positive. Choose your words carefully. Eliminate the word "not" from your thoughts for this purpose. It's easy to articulate what we do "not" desire, it takes effort to figure out what we "do" desire. Positive words reinforce positive thoughts. It does not take long before you begin to see yourself transforming into a more pleasant, more loving, peaceful person. Your life will start to change and begin to reflect the new you. People will respond in a positive way to the loving energy you emit. Change your perspective and outlook on life and you will become a much happier person!

Talk about physical freedom and comfort and use strength and confidence in your words. Choose your words to be as positive as you can. Stay away from things like, "I do not have ________" or "I do not want _________." Say something, instead, like: "I am free, comfortable and healthy." There is no limit to what can be visualized. I (Don) knew a woman who had been married a few times, and although the people were quite different, she found the experiences to be pretty much the same. She kept saying "I do not want another relationship with an abusive, alcoholic person." Guess what she attracted? Yep! Exactly what she did not want! Then she changed her thought and language to what she really desired, and guess what she attracted? Yep! Exactly what she desired!

This goes hand-in-hand with "Believe in Yourself." Positive thoughts bring positive words, which brings positive actions and puts forth positive energy, which in turn attracts positive energy back to you. And what is positive energy? It is LOVE! Loving yourself, believing in yourself, and holding nothing but positive thoughts are essential to healing.

We create through thought, followed by word, followed by deed. Whenever I found myself thinking something that contained a word like "not," I simply erased the thought and consciously replaced it with a more positive way of expressing myself. The more you do this, the easier it gets, until pretty soon you will notice it has become a natural way of thinking for you. You really will become a much more positive person all the way around, and I promise everyone around you will notice the "new" you and will respond to you in a more loving and positive way too. What we give, we receive!

CREATIVE VISUALIZATION

"Where there is no vision, the people perish:"

Being visual is an important part of creating anything, including excellent health. It is actually very simple. See yourself healthy. See yourself doing things that are a challenge to you now. See yourself with a smile and laughing, dancing, jumping around, walking a long beach, and so on. As you visualize, discuss what you are visualizing with yourself using the "claiming it" technique described earlier, along with the positive reinforcement.

It helps to be literal, consistent, and repetitive. For example, when dealing with asthma, try to see yourself running a marathon or whatever you have not been able to do because of the physical limitation. See yourself leaving your medication at home and going out confidently and happily. (But do not really leave your medication at home until you know you have healed completely.) There is actually no limit to what you can, in reality, experience.

One of the things I did, which I believe really did help tremendously, was to actually talk with my Low Self. In meditation, I solicited the help of my High Self to convince my Low Self that being healthy was much more fun than being sick. Recognizing that Low Self was not the reasoning sort, soliciting the assistance of High Self helped convince Low Self to see things "our" way. In order to communicate in the most effective way we could think of, I painted pictures, so to speak, of me doing all the things I loved to do.only I was doing them pain free. We showed Low Self how good it felt to hold hands with someone, to hug, to make love, to take long walks on the beach. We presented all kinds of future possibilities where we were more physically active, energetic and happy. We were loving to Low Self, acknowledging its pain and its needs. We love Low Self, as Low Self is also the fun, gentle, innocent aspect of our self.

It did not take long before I began to really feel a difference in my body. I began to get stronger. I noticed pain less and less, and slowly began to increase my endurance. I thanked my Low Self for helping me heal because without it's assistance I might still be struggling with the disease.

BE PATIENT

"And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise."

Honor yourself by taking whatever time you need to heal. It can take time to heal. Give yourself all the time you need. Although possibly, complete healing might not take place overnight. It took some time to get to where you are now and you have probably been that way for some time, so allow some time to heal. Do not put added pressure on yourself by being impatient. Take it one step, and one day at a time!

It took me about three months of intensive work before I was healed. It took another three months before I could fully accept it and was willing to say aloud that I no longer suffered from that physical challenge. No two people are alike. We all have our own issues to deal with. There is no set time limit here. Take your time withdrawing from medications and treatments. Trust your own intuition to guide you. When you are ready to give these things up, you will!

IN CONCLUSION

It is vitally important that we understand that there is a reason for everything. Even if we do not understand those reasons now, we have to accept that those reasons do exist. If spending our lives in pain is part of our intended and chosen experience for this lifetime, then complete healing may not take place. However, if we are totally committed to expanding our awareness and take the time to go through the steps we have discussed in repetition, we cannot help but think that, at the very least, the quality of your life will improve significantly. If we strive to view life from a higher perspective it becomes much easier to understand why some of us choose to experience life in a wheel chair or other life impairing conditions. Perhaps it is for the challenges living such a life will present to us that we seek. Perhaps it is to simply participate in the process of finding the cure. Perhaps it is to provide an opportunity for someone else. There can be endless reasons why one would choose disease and other physical conditions, just as there can be endless reasons why one would choose to overcome those experiences. If we "go within" and open ourselves to guidance from our High Self, accepting what has been given to us (by our own choosing) will become a much easier task.
