Ha HA HA !!!
I have to laugh at what you've written. I came home and opened the box with my new cooker and thought I would begin to cry!! I was so overwhelmed I asked my friend to take over 'cause I thought I would never have home made rice again!! And then to boot, most of the instructions were in Japanese!
My friend, being infinitely more adventurous than I , just said, lets push on the basic buttons and see what happens. That we did, and boy, what marvelous rice.
It's really quite simple, just confusing when you compare it to regular rice cookers where you just push one button. You measure the rice. I usually use the green cup for the jasmine and brown, the white for regular white rice,(which I rarely use.) Measure exactly with the cup and fill water to the corresponding line in the basket.
After you've placed in your rice and water push menu and select 'quick cooking' for white and 'brown' for brown.(duh, right?) Since I never make sushi at home, I never bother with all the other buttons.
When your little chimes go off, you will find the most beautiful rice in the world. BTW, it also makes supberb brown rice, firm but tender. Happy eating!
BOB- I use the almonds also. I've been wanting to add pan toasted almonds and coconut shavings to the rice. So glad to hear you think it's o.k. to use Smart Balance, because I had wondered about this. :-)
